SIX Women’s rights groups endorsed Barack Obama for president Tuesday, asserting the historic selection of a female Republican vice presidential candidate does not make up for John McCain’s lack of support on issues important to women.
“We don’t think it’s much to break a glass ceiling for one woman and leave millions of women behind,” said Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.
Smeal was among leaders from six organizations that announced their endorsement of the Democratic presidential nominee at a news conference.
Obama also won the support of the National Organization for Women, which said it has not endorsed a candidate for president since Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro shared the Democratic ticket in 1984. Senator Joe Biden of Delaware has been chosen as Barack Obama’s vice presidential running mate. Biden has been in the Senate for more than 36 years. He is well-versed in foreign policy and defense issues. Biden is outspoken, saying whats on his mind and he is also a great person to have as an attack dog. He can put Bush and McCain on trial. Have you ever seen him light into somebody on Meet The Press or any other political forum? He’s entertaining and he will add a good balance to the Obama ticket. I thought he’d be selected for Secretary of Defense but I was soooo wrong. Obama and Biden will appear today at 3pm at a rally in Springfield, Illinois.
