    President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

    The Norwegian Nobel Committee said: “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world’s population.”

    The committee added that it gave special acknowledgement to Obama’s works making his vision of a world without nuclear weapons into a reality.

    “Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play.”

    President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama landed in New York early Saturday, May 30, 2009 for a  dinner date in Manhattan and a Broadway play. The Obamas attended a performance of ‘Joe Turner’s Come and Gone’, the August Wilson drama that chronicles the struggles of African-Americans in the early 20th century. The talk around blog and tv land is, should Obama be going on a date? The answer, of course he should have! Barack Obama is not just the president, he is a man, a husband and a father. One of his priorities is to run this country and to fix all the mistakes of the Bush/Cheney era. That however, does not complete his list of priorities. What type of man do you want running this country?  A miserable unhappy man,  a tired, worn out man, a husband thats in the doghouse? He is the leader of this country and he has some advantages and disadvantages that come with the position. President Obama can’t have a date with his wife unless the whole press core is following. He has to have lights camera action on a private date with his wife not to mention parent activities at his daughter’s school. He can’t go for walks, haircuts, or even grab a burger without having his every move scrutinized (remember his condiment selection for the burger).

    Yes, GM is going through a bankruptcy but President Obama didn’t bankrupt them. He is doing his best to resolve this mess but since when does the President of the United States not date because GM has an impending bankruptcy? We should be thanking God that he’s not quail hunting! Nobodies talking about the fact that this Broadway play,  Joe Turner’s Come and Gone’ will have an increase in sales if not sold out all based on the fact that the President of the United States attended on Saturday May 3o. That’s an A+ night for Broadway….duh!

I can’t imagine in this day, in these times being around or engaging with a person who hasn’t or will not exercise their right to vote. It’s sad and downright disrespectful. Its disrespectful because of the sacrifices that have been made for you. Its disrespectful because of the current state of America. Its disrespectful because you complain everyday and your life could be better but you choose to take no action. In the past, nobody questioned if you voted or not. In today’s world, if you don’t vote your a lame and its simply not acceptable anymore. You don’t take your current situation or your citizenship seriously. There’s simply no excuse! So what if you have to be uncomfortable for a few hours. The change that could occur can outweigh all of that. This is a historic election and to live through it and not participate is a waste. Do you want to look back years from now, have people talking about this historic moment and you have to live with the fact that you didn’t vote? Take your place in history, claim this moment as yours…..GO VOTE!

He said he will be voting for Obama this election and he’s very worried about Sarah Palin. He doesn’t feel like she’s ready to be president. His endorsement is a big blow to John McCain. Powell is an experienced, respected and more importantly another republican voting for Barack Obama. Powell who is well known for his foreign policy and military experience, endorsed Obama not McCain. He also criticized McCain’s negative campaign. Powell said the negativity troubled him, the shifting of McCain troubled him, announcing that their going after Bill Ayers, calling Obama a Muslim and terrorist disturbed him greatly. He feels that Obama has the wisdom, calm, intelligence and leadership that our country needs in this day and age. Powell ended his interview with the press by saying he is still a republican.

He didn’t want to shake Obama’s hand, calls him that guy and wouldn’t look at him throughout the whole debate. How can he interact with other nations and their leaders? Bombing isn’t the answer to everything McCain. I heard that a reporter in Arizona wrote about something McCain said and McCain didn’t speak to him for ten years. Our military is already in overdrive because of this war in Iraq we shouldn’t be fighting. I don’t trust McCain or his erratic behavior and judgment.     John McCain was accused of improperly aiding his political patron, Charles Keating, chairman of the Lincoln Savings and Loan Association. The bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee launched investigations and formally reprimanded Senator McCain for his role in the scandal — the first such Senator to receive a major party nomination for president.

    At the heart of the scandal was Keating’s Lincoln Savings and Loan Association, which took advantage of deregulation in the 1980s to make risky investments with its depositors’ money. McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating with federal regulators tasked with preventing banking fraud, and championed legislation to delay regulation of the savings and loan industry — actions that allowed Keating to continue his fraud at an incredible cost to taxpayers.

    When the savings and loan industry collapsed, Keating’s failed company put taxpayers on the hook for $3.4 billion and more than 20,000 Americans lost their savings. John McCain was reprimanded by the bipartisan Senate Ethics Committee, but the ultimate cost of the crisis to American taxpayers reached more than $120 billion.
    The Keating scandal is eerily similar to today’s credit crisis, where a lack of regulation and cozy relationships between the financial industry and Congress has allowed banks to make risky loans and profit by bending the rules. And in both cases, John McCain’s judgment and values have placed him on the wrong side of history.

McCain didn’t return his call until around 2:30 this afternoon. They agreed to release joint statements to show some solidarity about the economy. Their staffs were working together to release a joint statement from the Obama and McCain camp. McCain made this decision to suspend the campaign at the last minute for presidential politics. He said this is an American problem that requires an American solution. He was asked a question about the debate and is McCain making this political. He went through the timeline and said as far as the debate, this is exactly what the people of the USA need. The president will be in office in about 40 days. Obama says its more important than ever to have this debate. Obama said he’s spoken to the congressional leaders everyday this week including the Secretary. They both have planes and there is no reason to not do the debate. He will be there to help anytime they need him, however they need him.

    SIX Women’s rights groups endorsed Barack Obama for president Tuesday, asserting the historic selection of a female Republican vice presidential candidate does not make up for John McCain’s lack of support on issues important to women.
    “We don’t think it’s much to break a glass ceiling for one woman and leave millions of women behind,” said Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation.
    Smeal was among leaders from six organizations that announced their endorsement of the Democratic presidential nominee at a news conference.
    Obama also won the support of the National Organization for Women, which said it has not endorsed a candidate for president since Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro shared the Democratic ticket in 1984. Ferraro was the first female major-party vice presidential candidate. Click here to continue reading
    NOW backed New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the primaries. “We join with her in saying ‘no,’” said NOW President Kim Gandy, referring to a line Clinton used at the Democratic convention last month. “No way, no how, no McCain.”

    Gandy and Smeal dismissed polls that suggested McCain has received a boost in support from white women after he picked Palin.
    Gandy predicted women will quickly swing their support to Obama once they know where Palin stands on the issues. The Alaska governor opposes abortion except in the case of a threat to the mother’s life.

    The McCain campaign said it was unhappy with NOW’s decision to endorse Obama in the race for the White House.
    “It’s extremely disappointing that an organization that purports to be an advocate for all women not only opposes, but feels compelled to go out of its way to criticize and make negative comments, about the only ticket in the presidential race with a woman on the ticket,” Palin’s spokeswoman Maria Comella said in an e-mail.

    Gandy criticized Republicans for changing their tone on sexism.

    “I love it that Republicans have discovered sexism in the media,” she said. “Because they didn’t see any of it when it was being directed at Hillary Clinton. But once Sarah Palin got a dose of it, which we also pointed out, they were all over it.”
    Obama was also endorsed by leaders from Business and Professional Women/USA, the National Association of Social Workers, the National Congress of Black Women and the Women’s Information Network.

    Rick Warren hosted a debate where McCain was supposed to be in a room, not privy to any of the questions that were being asked of Barack Obama. McCain was to get the same questions during his hour. We now find out that McCain wasn’t locked up, he was actually in a car on the way to the venue. He could have listened in the car, consulted with his campaign and prepared his answers. This is the only excuse for why he had prepared punch lines, why he had stories ready to go for every question. McCain at one point said I hope we get back to the importances of Supreme Court Justices…the only problem was Rick Warren never asked McCain about the justices, he asked Obama in the previous set. Thats when I knew for sure that McCain had been listening in. Throughout the whole question session with McCain he took over, Warren would throw the questions out and McCain would answer with self serving stories and fake prepared statements. Is that really the only way McCain can win? The old fart has to cheat…..Gimme A Break!

    Barack: That sleepover is enough. We want to teach some limits to them. And their friends bring over presents.
    Michelle: They get so much stuff that it just becomes numbing. Malia believes there is still a Santa Claus even though she’s a little wary because some of her friends are non-believers. But Malia says, “Ma, I know there is a Santa because there’s no way you’d buy me all that stuff.” [Laughing]

    So what does a slumber party at the Obama house look like? Barack: They’re pretty noisy.
    Michelle: The older they get, they just talk a lot. But they’re at the age where they’re pretty self-sufficient. [For Malia's birthday] we’re going to go swimming, see Wall-E, make pizzas, have sundaes.
    Barack: I usually go for the swim but this time I want to go to the movie just because Wall-E has gotten great reviews. I find actually that children’s movies are the best movies these days. But I’ll probably, after that, peel off until the cake.
    Michelle: [Laughs] “Peel off.”

    Last year, when we first met, Malia said that she sometimes wished maybe you wouldn’t win. Do you think they still have those mixed feelings?
    Barack: I am absolutely certain because we’ve talked about it – that they are not looking forward to moving. They have a wonderful life in Chicago, they have lifelong friends in Chicago and the prospects of having to make new friends, that’s never something that kids are looking forward to. So I’m sure that there’s a part of them that says we won’t be heartbroken if things don’t work out.

    Can you tell me how this experience has changed your marriage?Barack: It’s made it stronger. The tough times for us were when the kids were real small, I was away a lot and Michelle was still working. So, the burden on her was enormous, and I think there’s a feeling that maybe I didn’t fully appreciate that burden. That was something we worked through. And I think we’re both more patient with each other. We both know how to avoid making the other person feel aggravated. And I’m so proud of her and I think she knows how much I love and appreciate her. So, she puts up with me.
    Michelle: I think it has made us stronger. Time and love and sacrifice and hard struggles, I think, make you stronger.
    Barack: I also think that she knew at the beginning when I was doing this that if she came to me and said don’t do it, I wouldn’t have done it.
    Michelle: That’s the key, for sure.
    Barack: And if I ever thought that it was ruining my family, I wouldn’t do it.
    Michelle: We’re constantly balancing each other. I know that if I were to say, “I can’t take this,” it would be over.
